Lindsay McElroyFemale Youth Athlete of the Year Soccer / Softball 2010
Lindsay McElroy, a multi-sport athlete from South Delta Secondary School, has participated and excelled in soccer, softball, volleyball and basketball. Arguably, her best sports are soccer and softball having competed on school, community and provincial teams and won championships at each level.
Her athletic achievements in 2009 – 2010 are impressive. Lindsay was captain of the SDSS volleyball and basketball teams as well as a member of the soccer team. At the 2009 AAA Girls Soccer Provincial Tournament, Lindsay was selected as a member of the Commissioners XI. Also in 2009, she was chosen as the South Delta Secondary School “Outstanding Female Athlete”, In the community, she played club soccer for the Tsawwassen Soccer Association and for the 1991 Delta Heat Fastpitch Rep. “A” Team. Lindsay’s softball credentials are exceptional. As a catcher she was on the gold medal winning BC team at the 2009 Canada Summer Games in Prince Edward Island. At the completion of her softball season Lindsay was a co-winner of the Delta Heat Hannah Anderson Memorial Award for leadership, commitment and sportsmanship.
Lindsay also received the ACE Leadership Award to recognize her contributions to her community on and off the field. Lindsay is currently a member of the UBC NAIA Varsity Softball program as a freshman.
Academically, Lindsay McElroy has been an outstanding student athlete and since Grade 8 has been on the South Delta Secondary School Honour Roll and “G” Clubs. As a direct result of her performance in the classroom, she received a 2009 Entrance Scholarship to the University of British Columbia, the Delta Heat Fastpitch Scholarship, the Delta School District Athletic Scholarship, the Tsawwassen Minor Softball Scholarship and a Softball BC Scholarship. She is currently a freshman at the University of British Columbia and playing on the varsity softball team.
Lindsay also devotes time to volunteer for community efforts such as the Great Room Women’s Shelter, the Invisible Room and Dodson Rooms and the Interact Club. As well Lindsay is a member of the Tsawwassen Youth Church group with the Tsawwassen Alliance Church. She has also lent her expertise to assist at softball, soccer and volleyball clinics in Delta.
