Joy Fera

Master Athlete of the Year 2005 & 2012
Joy Fera

Joy Fera has been recognized as a very competitive master athlete in Alpine Skiing and Rowing for a considerable number of years. This past year has been no exception. When Alpine Canada announced its Canadian Masters Alpine Skiing Team, Joy was selected as a team member in the 60-64 age division. The qualification requirements are quite stringent, making her selection a remarkable achievement.

Early in the 2011 season, Joy and three male teammates won the Dave Murray Trophy for the oldest age category in Whistler’s annual Peak to Valley Giant Slalom race. At the 2011 Canadian Masters Alpine Skiing Championships, held at Sun Peaks Resort in March, she won three gold medals (two in the Super G and one in the Slalom), one silver (Giant Slalom) and gold in the Combined events for women in her age division.

In addition to the above achievements, Joy was the recipient of the Champion of Champions Medal for women in recognition of her results in the Super G and Slalom events. The medal is awarded to the overall points winner at the meet, regardless of age. The Canadian Championships draw more than 100 of the best Masters level skiers from around the country.
